The Position of Nigerian Law on Termination of Employment Without Reason: A Better View

In this paper, our Partner Aisha Rimi and Senior Associate, Orji A. Uka interrogate the recent decisions of the National Industrial Court on the question of whether an employer is bound to give reasons for terminating an employee’s contract. In the end they conclude that the law has not changed and that international best practices (especially those that have no force of law in Nigeria) must be expressly incorporated into contracts before they have the effect of changing the terms of the parties’ agreements.
