Recent Developments on the AfCFTA Digital Trade Protocol Nigeria

The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) digital trade protocol adopted in February 2024 was drafted primarily with the objective of promoting and facilitating intra-Africa digital trade. It was designed to encourage the interoperability of digital products among membt:r State parties, facilitate the development of digital infrastructure and mandate the establishment of data protection authorities within State parties among other provisions.

According to reports, on 22 November 2024, the Supreme Court delivered a judgment in Attorney General of Lagos State v. Attorney General of Federation & National Assembly SC/1/2008. This appeal before the Supreme Court originates from a suit filed by the Attorney General of Lagos State in 2008.

What it means

The NDIC is responsible for insuring deposits in Deposit Money Banks (DMBs), such as the Bank. It provides insurance coverage for DMBs up to N5,000,000.00 (Five Million Naira) (the “Insured Sum”).
